 •  Needle is correct type for machine

 •  Sufficient tension on needle thread

 •  Machine is properly threaded

 •  Material is held down firmly and feeding freely

 

 Loose stitches on underside of fabric

 

•  Needle is straight and sharp

 •  Bobbin case is free of lint

 •  Bobbin case has not been wound too full

 •  Presser foot has been lowered (particularly when darning or using thick fabric)

 •  Correct bobbin case tension

 •  Needle/thread/material not compatible

 •  Tension check spring not operating

 •  Damaged shuttle hook

 

 Seams pucker

 

•  Needle thread tension too tight

 •  Pressure on presser foot too strong

 •  Correct stitch length for fabric

 •  Unevenly wound bobbin
